Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth refers to the process whereby a believer attains maturity in his or her walk with God by the divine assistance of the Holy Spirit. Maturity refers to a stage in the believer’s life where the childish conduct of being lukewarm or dead to spiritual matters is abolished for the serious practice of conforming steadfastly to the character of Jesus Christ

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Hebrews 5:14

It is observed by the measured upward difference between the believer’s current lifestyle and the life he or she previously lived either as an unbeliever or as a spiritual infant. The spiritual infant according to the Apostle Peter is a simple believer or a new convert being introduced to the scriptures as a means of supporting their development just as a baby begins by crawling, making attempts to stand on their feet and then helped to walk before they can do so without support.

Hebrews 5 vs 14 tells us that those who are mature have their senses exercised to discern right from wrong. The word discern means they are vigilant and resist the attempts of the enemy to deceive them. They are firm and not driven by the flesh to accept the invitation of sin.

Their aim is to please God because they have an intense desire to walk according to His will and model that behavior for others to do likewise. They are fruitful because they have submitted to the pruning of the husbandman, God the Father whose desire is to see His children bear much fruit according to the account recorded in John’s gospel. Their lives reflect the fruits of the Holy Spirit as their faith is anchored in the Lord Jesus Christ. They are not seduced by every wind of doctrine but rather embrace the truth and seek avenues to grow further.
